Why Choose Chelated Liquid Copper?

  • Stays workable in hard water: The ethanolamine-chelated formula helps keep copper available where untreated copper can tie up faster.
  • Fits professional routines: Liquid measuring, tank mixing, and water-column dosing make planning easier on larger jobs.
  • Supports smarter maintenance: Use it for fast algae knockdown, then pair it with microbes and cleanup work to reduce repeat bloom pressure.

What is Alligare Argos and what problem is it built to solve?
Alligare Argos is a chelated copper liquid algaecide and herbicide for controlling planktonic, filamentous, and benthic algae in larger water bodies. It is a strong fit when you need a fast-response aquatic algaecide for ponds, lakes, reservoirs, hatcheries, canals, or drainage ditches. It also has labeled use on Hydrilla and certain other submersed aquatic weeds.
Is Alligare Argos a good fit for ponds, lakes, canals, and potable water reservoirs?
Yes. Argos is labeled for lakes, ponds, potable water reservoirs, fish hatcheries and raceways, and irrigation conveyance systems such as ditches, canals, and laterals. It is not the right choice for waters containing koi or hybrid goldfish, or for small-volume garden pond systems.
How fast does Alligare Argos work on planktonic algae and filamentous algae?
Alligare Argos can control planktonic algae in 24 to 48 hours and filamentous algae in 3 to 4 days. That makes it a practical option when surface blooms or floating mats need a quick correction. Dense infestations still need smart treatment spacing so oxygen loss from decaying biomass does not create bigger problems.
How much Alligare Argos do I need per acre-foot for algae treatment?
Alligare Argos is dosed by ppm copper and acre-foot volume, not by guesswork. Planktonic algae uses 0.6, 1.2, or 1.8 gallons per acre-foot for 0.2, 0.4, or 0.6 ppm; filamentous algae uses 0.6, 1.8, or 2.4 gallons per acre-foot for 0.2, 0.6, or 0.8 ppm; benthic algae such as Chara or Nitella uses 1.2, 2.1, or 3.0 gallons per acre-foot for 0.4, 0.7, or 1.0 ppm. The right rate depends on algae type, density, and water volume.
Can Alligare Argos be used for Hydrilla control in ponds or lakes?
Yes. Argos is labeled for Hydrilla control at 0.4 to 1.0 ppm copper, and the gallons per surface acre change with water depth and growth stage. At 1-foot depth, the table runs 1.2 to 3.0 gallons per surface acre, and at 6 feet it runs 7.2 to 18.0 gallons. Early-season low-density growth uses the lighter end of the table, while late-season dense growth pushes rates higher.
Can I swim, fish, irrigate, or water livestock after treatment?
Yes, for swimming, fishing, livestock watering, and irrigation after treatment. Potable water sources can also be treated, but drinking-water uses still require proper additional potable water treatment.
Does Alligare Argos work in hard water?
Yes. The chelated copper ethanolamine formula is built to help prevent copper from tying up with carbonates and bicarbonates, which makes Argos a strong fit for hard-water algae treatment. That can make planning easier where untreated copper products lose availability faster.
When is the best time to apply Alligare Argos for spring pond algae control?
Argos is best started in spring as water warms to about 60°F and algae or weeds are actively growing. Calm, sunny conditions help speed results, and breaking apart heavy surface mats before treatment improves contact. For heavy infestations, treat only up to half the waterbody at one time.
Why does pond algae keep coming back, and should I pair Argos with beneficial microbes?
Yes, pairing fast knockdown with a longer-term biology program is a smart strategy. Argos quickly kills existing algae, but the dead biomass still has to decompose, and nutrient-rich organic buildup can keep feeding future blooms. Beneficial microbes help work on that sludge and excess organics so the pond can move toward lower repeat-growth pressure over time.
How often can I retreat with Alligare Argos, and when is it not the right product?
Alligare Argos treatments generally need at least 14 days between applications. It is not the right fit for waters containing koi or hybrid goldfish, and it is not intended for small-volume garden pond systems. In soft or acidic water with low alkalinity, extra caution is important because copper can be tougher on sensitive fish.

I’ve been using for a few years. Really controls the algae from spreading. I use 1 gallon per month for about a half acre pond that is 12 feet deep at the deepest point but mostly shallow. Keeps the small beach area clean.

We have a 5 acre HOA lake that developed thick filamentous algae mats last spring due to regular resident fertilizer runoff among other things. About 30% of our lake became heavily covered with the matts as the weather warmed. We used our 30 gallon boat mounted sprayer mixed with 3 gallons of Argos and 60 oz of surfactant, which provided enough solution to cover the entire shoreline. This program worked well at controlling the algae for us last year, but as expected, the algae has returned again. And we expect this as there is little we can do about the fertilizer situation. I spoke with Rob at Newtechbio about our situation and he suggested a modified program for our lake. This year, in addition to the Argos application, we added Mako Bahamas dye to help block the sun penetration, along with NT-MAX clarifier microbes to help consume the fertilizer responsible for the persistent algae. As of today, the pond looks wonderful and crisp. The color is perfect and we are very please with the results. Great helpful customer service and products!

I use Argos and Hydrothol early in April to control Chara that has been creeping. Works great when you get to it early in the spring. First year I tried in August and no luck.

The military base I was stationed at 2 years ago used this like water, so I gave it a shot. It does a fine job of killing tthe algae and the price is fair.

Works as advertised

Excellent results. I used this product along with Cygnet Plus surfactant and the algae turned brown in one day. I am very happy with both products.

Killed the algae overnight

I walked along the edges and sprayed late afternoon and this morning everywhere I sprayed is brown. I used a 1/4 gallon of product with 3/4 gallon of water.

This works well on floating algae but not Eurasian Watermilfoil. We have 2 RV park ponds. We use Argos for algae in our 1 acre and Sonar, NT-MAX Clarifier and black dye on the Milfoil infested pond. Products work really great. Will buy again!
